Legendary Teachers: Mr Kotch By Kayla dowd and courtney milot
A beloved cross country coach and a favorite in the science department, the lucky winner for this month’s teacher interview is Mr. Kotch. Everyone knows and loves this well-known fixture at the Regional. Sound Off’s investigative team interviewed Mr. Kotch with the intention of learning some unknown new facts.
When asked what first drew him to teaching, Mr. Kotch jokingly replied, “The months of June, July, and August.” In the same frank humor, Mr. Kotch answered an inquiry about his biggest student pet peeve with one word: “Everything.” He was asked to dispel a scientific myth, to which he replied, “There are no stupid questions.” As Mr. Kotch is the head of the science department, it seemed only fitting to ask him some science-related questions. Mr. Kotch’s favorite species is a raptor, or Velociraptor mongoliensis. His favorite scientist, he claims, is Mrs. Umile. An avid ice cream enthusiast, Mr. Kotch’s favorite flavor of ice cream is mocha chip. When asked what he would watch if he were in solitary confinement with a dvd player and one show on tape, Mr. Kotch replied that he would want a recording of the 2004 World Series, particularly the winning moment for the Red Sox. In the case of a zombie apocalypse, Mr. Kotch would not be afraid, as he is a man without fear. As one of his final questions, Mr. Kotch was asked to determine which faculty member he is most similar to. After a moment of thought, Mr. Kotch decided the he is most like Mr. Maher. The one question Mr. Kotch was unable to answer was an inquiry of the craziest homework excuse he’s ever heard. Mr. Kotch replied, “honestly, I can’t really think of anything all that crazy. Pretty much everyone does their homework.” His answer is a testament to the diligent workers at the Regional and their responsibility for their work. |
