Boys Soccer- a successful season by kayla dowd and erin mason
Despite a hard fought game, the Hamilton-Wenham Generals boys soccer team lost 2-0 to the Georgetown Royals Sunday November 10. The Generals boys had previously won to St. Mary’s of Danvers at Manning Field in Lynn, earning them a spot in the finals. On the chilly fall day, the Generals and the Royals played at the same Lynn Manning Field with many classmates and parents supporting their teams. The fans were just as excited as the teams to face off for the title of North Finalists in the final game of the tournament. After the opening ceremonies and the singing of the National Anthem both teams took the field. Early in the first half the Royals scored off of a penalty kick, taking the lead at 1-0. Although the Generals had opportunities through two indirect kicks in the first half, they were unable to score and trailed the Royals by one goal. With about 27 minutes left in the second half, the Royals score again off of a deflection making the score 2-0. Despite valiant efforts, the Generals were not able to score and the Royals took the win. In bringing a strong, active defense to the game, the Royals were able to isolate lead scorer Russell Grigorian and not give the Generals any goals. The Georgetown Royals boys soccer team won the Division 4 tournament with a record of 13-2-7. The Generals had their most successful postseason since 2008, finishing their season with an excellent record of 12-5-5 and were named Division 4 North Finalists.
